Need to replace a damaged, lost or worn standard plate? We make like-for-like replacements in the correct legal format, using the same high-quality printed finish from our range.
Correcting a damaged or incorrectly displayed plate
If your current plate is cracked, faded, or was made with incorrect spacing, a new standard plate made to the current rules fixes all three. We make your registration to the legal layout, so a replacement for a non-compliant original may look different from it.

Order a single front or rear plate in the size of the one you're keeping. We'll make it in our standard printed finish; an exact match to another supplier's plate isn't guaranteed, as acrylic and print vary between makers.
Upgrading from printed to raised characters
Like the look of raised characters? Choose 3D gel, 4D acrylic or another finish in the builder. You can change the finish without telling the DVLA, as long as the registration itself isn't changing.

Standard, 2D and Printed Number Plates Explained
A standard number plate — also called 2D or printed — has flat characters printed directly onto a reflective acrylic plate, with no raised or domed finish.
It's the simplest and least expensive of our styles, and it meets exactly the same legal requirements for character size, spacing, colour and markings as our raised-character styles.

Sizes and options
Standard Plate Sizes and Reflective Acrylic Construction
Standard plates are made on the same reflective acrylic base as our other styles — white reflective at the front, yellow reflective at the rear — with printed rather than raised characters.
Standard Size
520mm × 111mm. Shorter sizes may also be available for this style — the builder will show what's offered once you enter your registration.
Motorcycle Options
A common standard car-plate size is 520mm × 111mm. Other sizes may be available for some registrations; the builder shows what is offered for this style once you enter your registration.

Legal information
Road-Use Requirements for Standard Plates
Standard plates meet the same legal requirements as every style we make: correct Charles Wright characters, correct spacing, the right reflective background, solid black non-reflective characters, and the required supplier and British Standard markings.
This is separate from the DVSA MOT check, which looks at condition, legibility, security and fitting rather than the supplier markings.

To order number plates, we need to verify your identity and that you’re entitled
to use the registration number. You can provide the following documents.
Proof of Your Name and Address
Driving licence; utility, Council Tax or rates bill or bank/building society statement from the last 6 months; or national identity card. A passport or bank card proves your name only.

Proof You Can Use the Registration
Your V5C logbook or its green new-keeper slip, a V750 certificate of entitlement, a V778 retention certificate, a V11 tax reminder showing the registration, a V379 temporary registration certificate, a stamped V948 (physical authorisation) or an electronic eV948 confirmation, or a letter from a fleet or lease company quoting your V5C document reference number.

Standard Plate Delivery and Ilford Collection
Standard Royal Mail First Class delivery is £3 on orders under £15 and free on orders of £15 or more. Upgrade to Royal Mail Tracked 24 for an additional £2. Royal Mail delivery times are aims, not guarantees. First Class aims for the next working day (including Saturday). Order before 2pm Monday to Friday for same-day dispatch once checks are complete.

Fitting Options and Warranty Support
If a fixing option such as sticky pads or a screw kit is available for your order, you'll see it at checkout. New orders carry a 6-month manufacturing-defect warranty from the delivery or collection date, in addition to your statutory rights. A warranty covers manufacturing defects; it is not a statement that a product is approved for road use. If you think a plate has a fault, contact us and we'll assess it.
